Most of book is a 3 column layout of the English, the Spanish, and the pronunciation, on each horizontal.Topics are used, such as Communication, Money, Signs.Book seems to be on recycled nonglare paper for environment. It looks almost like paperback novel inside. Book shows thought, but is not 'pretty': no photograph or color printing is used.Book is intended for pure beginner, as they say. But it does have phrases, not just words. My very large pocket safari shirt holds its width: about 4.3 inches wide, 6.25 inches high (top out of my big pocket), one inch thick, and 352 pages total.Bold print is used only for irregular stress in the pronunciation print, but Spanish itself shows that irregular stress by Spanish accent mark.

I would prefer bold type on every stressed syllable, regardless of regular or irregular stress, since it is fairly easy to do. Margarita Madrigal's book 'See it and say it in Spanish' is a great way to learn Spanish. I only gave the Madrigal book four stars because Margarita Madrigal or her publisher should offer companion DVDs and/or CDs to give the proper pronunciation of Spanish words. If you buy Rosetta Stone language-learning software, the Madrigal book is still a great complement to it. It is also a wonderful reference source for vocabulary and grammar and would be a handy phrase book to bring with you when you travel to Spain or Mexico. At a purchase price of $6.99, the book is a steal. I suggest you buy an extra copy to lend to your traveling companion(s) when you go to Spain or Mexico.

I went looking for a thorough, inexpensive, and practical Spanish guide for travelers, and I found it in this book. I shouldn't be surprised, because whether it is foreign languages or studying for the GRE, Barron's has never disappointed me.The book is color-coded and divided into 17 sections, including a pronunciation guide at the beginning, and a (very brief) grammar and dictionary at the end.

Neither the pronunciation guide nor grammar is extremely helpful, because of their brevity, but what is in between is extremely helpful, although the grammar and pronunciation guide are decent for their length. Sections include: Basics, At the Hotel, Getting Around Town, Food and Drink, Meeting People, and more. Every word and phrase is spelled out phonetically to make pronunciation painless. Since the book is relatively new, it includes computer and internet related words and phrases too.The guide is also entertaining, being.
