Hi Everyone,I am writing a simple application to start with Windows Mobile 6. Though, Ihave developed many applications on.NET Framework 1.1, but this is thefirst time I am working on Compact Framework.I have tried to write an application, that creates a simple form with 2buttons on that, 'Hide' and 'Unload'. I built the application well andcopied it to the device. The application was build using FW 3.5 and beforerunning the application on the device, I installed.NET CF 3.5(NETCFv35.wm.armv4i.cab) on the device and rebooted it.When I run the application, it fails during the execution of method'InitializeComponent'. It wouldn't be the Windows Mobile Standard emulator or device (i.e.smartphone) that is causing this exception?Buttons are not supported on the smartphone user interface (the suggestedreplacement is soft key menu items), this will lead to theNotSupportedException you mention whenever a button is attempted to becreated.

Buttons are only supported on the Windows Mobile Classic orProfessional (i.e. Pocketpc) platforms. If you use the 'Change Platform' option within Visual Studio to switch theforms designer to a Windows Mobile Standard platform you should notice thata little exclimation mark is displayed beside the button in the formsdesigner indicating it is not supported. You will also notice that thecontrols in the toolbox changes to remove those not available on thisplatform (there are a couple of others as well).Hope this helps,Christopher Fairbairn. In my case I had to Invoke to the UI thread to avoid the problem. I managed to get hold of an inner exception and the stack, which eventually led me to the conclusion it was the UI main thread of.NET framework that complained.

My update also came from another thread so I should have used it all along from the start.R/ZVipul Pathak wrote:Thanks Christopher,The problem is resolved.21-Mar-08Thanks ChristopherThe problem is resolved. When I switched toWindows Mobile 6 Standard, I can see that buttons are not allowedThanks.(Vipul)Previous Posts In This Thread:NotSupportedException on Windows Mobile Device.Hi EveryoneI am writing a simple application to start with Windows Mobile 6. Yes that does sound very strange. I suspect that there may have beensomething else at play in that situation.

I have found the modern emulatorsto match the behaviour of an actual device very closely and buttons aredefinatly supported by Windows Mobile 6 Professional devices.Hope this helps,Christopher FairbairnHello Vipul,I think the command Christopher is referring to is 'Change TargetHello Vipul,I think the command Christopher is referring to is 'Change TargetPlatform.' Common

From what I know Smartphones do not accept creatin buttons.Regards,The same problem as what? The same problem as what? Reply to the thread that you are talking about. This message is useless to us. I have been getting several errors occurring in the Microsoft.AGL.Common.MISC.HandleAr method. The exception being raised is System.Exception.

I know HandleAR is supposed to check the return value of the PALERROR structure and raise a managed exception if it can find one. If it doesn't find one it simply raises 'System.Exception'. I manage about 1000 PPC devices running the 2.0 framework. These devices run PPC 2003 and WM 5.

Misc

They are used 24 hours a day. I only get about 20 some errors a day, so in the grand scheme of things it's not many, but it's still annoying. Every time I get an unhandled exception I get an email with the error and stack trace. Otherwise, I would have no idea there is a problem. I unfortunately can't recreate the error here at the office. I see the error occur mostly on my scrollbar contained in my custom listbox and also on a tab control which isn't custom. I will attach a few stack traces.

The exception type is always System.Exception. The exception message is always 'Exception'.

PlaterWas there a resolution to thisI am getting the same thing on my WinCE w/ CF2 when I attempt to close a form with code (myform.Close)(NotSupportedException) An error message cannot be displayed because an optional resource assembly containing it cannot be foundat Microsoft.AGL.Common.MISC.HandleArat System.Windows.Forms.Form.CloseIs the problem that I call the close in an eventhandler for my custom object (the object is instanciated inside the form and the object internally has it's own thread). PlaterYeah with some testing I discovered that the thread itself was not getting getting the error, it was just the place where the try/catch was. I found a way around what I wanted by making my event handler return a value.I still am not sure I like it. Seems like there should be a better way.If the handler returns 'true' it tells my custom object(and it's thread) to change a boolean value and exit/complete itself.I then have a Timer object on the form that acts as a 'watchdog' and when it sees that boolean in my custom object change, it triggers the form.Close and the program exits.Seems nasty. But my other fun alternative had been:System.Diagnostics.

Process.GetCurrentProcess.Kill;in the eventhandler to just kill everything. That also seems like I might leave filehandles open(or at least waiting for the CLR to do a garbage collect).
